Bed Gown or Manteau-de-lit:

The bed gown was popular between 1730 and 1770. The bed gown was worn by women of all stations. The fabrics used were based upon the intended use or the status of the wearer. The bed gown was normally mid-thigh or longer. Loose fitting garment intended to go over other garments. Generous size allowances.

Standard Bed gown shown in museum reproduction cotton print. Over French wool bodice and petticoat. Deb is also wearing our Cottage Cap.
