The Ladies French Jacket, Pet-en-L'air also known as the Short Sack.

The Pet-en-l'air or the French Jacket: Retailing at $200.00 for cotton, unadorned as shown in blue. For additional embellishments such as the silk ribbons like on the coral colored Fustian jacket, Add $30.00. Additional trims can be discussed when you place your order.

Detailing includes: folded lapels, stitched in stomacher and pleated sack back. Laced bodice lining at inner back makes the dress more form fitting than other commercial sack-dress jackets on the market today. Jacket is meant to be worn over stays to accent the flat, smooth lines of the front. Panniers or "hip buckets" also recommended to accentuate the flared and pleated sides. Hook/eye closure in front, (shown) comes standard.  Fully lined, period correct construction. Our original pattern is directly copied from a museum piece and we have not seen anything like it out on the re-enactment circuit as of yet!

Popular in the mid 1700's, documented in several period paintings, museum collections and privately held collections. Fabrics noted were satins, brocades, linens and "India painted cottons". Trims varied upon individual taste and wealth.

This is a custom order. Please phone with measurements, fabric choice and trim options so that we can create a jacket for you!
